What is E-Ticketing?
E-Ticketing
is a service that creates a convenient electronic airline ticket,
rather than the traditional paper or card ticket. All of the information
that is printed on a paper ticket, including your advance seat assignments
(some airlines do not pre-assign seats), is stored electronically
in the airline's computer database.
How does it work?
1. Call your
Professional Travel agent to book your reservation.
2. When you're
ready to purchase a ticket, we send an electronic message to the
airline confirming that you are ticketed.
3. Well give
you a confirmation number and mail you an itinerary and receipt
to use as supporting documentation for your reimbursement purposes.
4. You will
give your confirmation number to an airline gate agent. The agent
will check your ID and issue your boarding pass.
What Airlines are Participating?
- American
- America West
- Continental
- Delta
- Northwest
- Reno Air
- Southwest
- TWA
- United
- US Air
- Vanguard
When Can I Not Use an E-Ticket?
Some airlines
have started experimenting with E-Tickets in limited international
markets. The challenge with international E-Tickets is that Customs
requires that you show you're in possession of a return ticket when
entering a foreign country.
If you are
traveling outbound on one airline and returning on another, E-Ticketing
cannot be used.
Did You
Know?
Some estimates
indicate that the airlines could save as much as $1 billion per
year if all ticketing was done electronically.
To make changes
to your ticket takes a simple phone call to Professional Travel.
Tickets do not have to be picked up and redelivered.
The airlines
are hoping that all domestic ticketing will be electronic by the
end of 1999.
Company-wide,
Professional Travel currently issues 47% of all tickets electronically.
61% of all tickets issued from our headquarters office are electronic.
The airlines
currently charge $60-$70 to research and refund a lost paper ticket.
E-Tickets eliminate the worry of ever losing or forgetting your
ticket. No paper, no hassle.
