Warehousing Procedures

Logistics Operations administers one warehouse at 1575 Marshall Rd. Due to the FL4 remodeling project, a listing of furniture and equipment is not available at this time. If you are in need of either furniture or equipment, contact Rudy Montano. The LOWS inventory list will not be available until summer of 2012.

The purpose of this facility is to offer a storage and retrieval service. However, storage space is limited and therefore we have set the following policies:

Anyone requiring storage/retrieval services must complete the Warehouse Service Request Form. An electronic receipt for all stored items will be returned to the storage originator.

Items intended for long term storage with no intent to be used again, i.e. indefinite storage to avoid permanent disposal, will be refused.

All items intended for storage/excess must be properly labeled.
Labels must be taped to each piece.
Do Not use "Post-It" notes.
Do Not use "Mover's" labels, or any label with an adhesive that makes removal difficult.
Labels must include Division, Contact Person's name and extension, and Date.
Labels must be marked with "Store for," or "Excess."

All items with a Property Tag must be cleared for excess and/or surplus through the UCAR Property Office and the appropriate Divisions DPA, and all property tags removed. Contact Chris Knoetgen or Betsy Hulsing for information.

Storage of furniture items for a Division will only be held for a maximum period of six months. After the six month term is finished, instructions for the disposition of the furniture must be given from the Division. If no instructions are received, the stored furniture will be placed in "Excess" and available for use corporate-wide.

All items meant for archiving must be sent through Archives. Contact Kate Legg.

  • With a value = or < $5,000 storage = or < six months
  • Divisional furniture storage = or < six months
  • Excess furniture items
  • LOWS Inventory
  • Warehouse Services Request Form

Definitions:

Short Term Storage: Items intended for storage = or < six months

Long Term Storage: Items such as trade show booths or shipping crates that will need to be shipped for a trade show or field project and returned for storage

Excess: If an item is no longer needed by a Division it is considered Excess.
These items will be available to any Division, and the current inventory is available at LOWS Inventory.

If no other Division claims the items within six months, items will be offered to other non-profit organizations as donations through the UCAR Property Office.

Trash/Recycle: Items that are broken or unusable.
Every effort will be used to recycle all steel/metal, glass, paper, cardboard items.
Please do not request that these type of items be held in storage.
