Under no circumstances shall recyclable materials be appropriated for personal use, or sold for personal benefit. Any suspected activity relating to personal use or sale of recyclable materials may lead to disciplinary action up to and including termination.
UCAR chooses recycling vendors that handle materials domestically in accordance with any relevant EPA or other governmental/property regulations.
Computer Equipment, Monitors, Printers, Peripherals, and Miscellaneous Electronic Equipment
All items that require a power cord or battery power supply are designated as “electronics” for the purpose of recycling. Examples include, but are not limited to: Computers, monitors, printers, mobile phones, space heaters and fans. Note that batteries are to be recycled separately from electronic items.
Electronics recycling bins are located at the 3 Logistics facilities: ML, FL1, and CG3.
Any individual wishing to dispose of tagged property must first coordinate release through the UCAR Property Office, Chris Knoetgen x 8573 or Betsy Hulsing x 8858, and their DPA.
All property policies must be complied with at all times.

Wireless/Cell Phones
Send to FL1 mailroom package marked "Recycle -- Phone" for reuse or recycling through Eco-Cycle. If phone is in good condition, pack with protective material, leave battery in phone, and include cords and accessories -- many phones can be refurbished and reused.
Scrap Non-Ferrous Metals
Non-ferrous metal includes copper, steel, iron, gold, silver, aluminum (not including aluminum cans that can be placed in single stream recycling bins) and other metals of value.
Bins are located at the 3 Logistics facilities: ML, FL1, and CG3.
Any individual wishing to dispose of any scrap metals must first coordinate release through the UCAR Contracts Office: Bill Hammel x 8869.
All non-ferrous metal articles will be recycled through Western Aluminum.
A receipt will be received indicating two Logistics Operations staff names, the date, the name or division that credit for the metal willt be given to, and a reference to the UCAR blanket order number. The receipt will also show pieces/weight.
After approval is given, if you would like to request a pickup of non-ferrous metal, please submit a work order.

Iron/Steel Metal
All iron and steel metal is taken to the Marshall Field Site and deposited into a recycling trailer. Contact Leonard Cooper for more information.
Batteries
All batteries must be collected and transported in such a way to meet Department of Transportation (DOT) guidelines for battery transport. DOT info: Kerry Slaven, x 1151.
Employees should tape the terminals of batteries, or put them in individual plastic bags, in order to avoid the risk of them generating a dangerous quantity of heat, short circuiting, or causing sparks that would create a fire hazard in transport. See the HESS Batteries page for more information.

Books
Only full pallets of books that are boxed will be taken to Eco-Cycle.
Pallets for collection are located at ML and FL.
No manuals with spiral spines will be accepted until the spines are removed prior to Logistics acceptance.
