MARCH MEETING – The March 2004 meeting will be Thursday, the 25th, 9:30-11:00 A.M. at CG2-Corporate Training Center.
CIP TRAINING – A Constructed Asset (CIP; Construction in Process) class is scheduled for Thursday, March 18th, 9:00-11:00 A.M. at CG4-Rm 2020. If you are not already signed up but wish to attend, e-mail Janet (janetc@ucar.edu) to be added to the attendance list.
JANET'S SCHEDULE – Janet will be out of the office Tuesdays through the end of April. If you require assistance on Tuesdays, please call Chris (ext. 8858). Feel free to leave voice- or e-mail messages for Janet and she will respond on Wednesday.
GSAXcess WEB SITE – The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) has a Web site where UCAR can obtain excess equipment for only the cost of shipping the item(s) from its current location to UCAR. On the GSAXcess Web site, excess government equipment is made available to other government agencies. Although UCAR is not a government agency, UCAR can acquire excess equipment through NSF. Examples of equipment available are oscilloscopes, compressors and signal generators.
To access the Web site, click on http://gsaxcess.gov/fedsweb/fedsweb/. Contact the Property Office for the Access Code and Password, along with detailed instructions on how to navigate the Web site.
SENSITIVE PROPERTY – Divisions are required to track Sensitive Property (walkaway items that cost $2,000-$5,000) in order to comply with NSF guidelines. Please refer to Section 8: Sensitive Property Procedures, in the UCAR Property Manual, for details on this procedure.
For most divisions, the number of items that must be tracked is very limited and some divisions choose to track more than is required by the Procedure.
DISPOSAL METHODS – When a fixed asset is no longer needed for use by UCAR, that asset must be disposed of in a manner that ensures appropriate use in its after-life and provides an auditable trail to prove UCAR has managed its assets correctly. The method of disposal (i.e., scrap/dismantle, salvage, trade-in) dictates the procedures to complete the action and what notifications must be issued or authorizations received.
Section 3-4: Disposition of Property, of the UCAR Property Manual, provides detail on the various disposal methods. If a division needs to dispose of property by a method not included in the Manual, contact the Property Office and we will identify the appropriate procedures for the action desired.
(Non-fixed assets should be offered to other divisions if they are in working condition. Otherwise, they may be sent to recycle/salvage, through UCAR Logistics Ops, without contacting the Property Office. If the division wants to donate equipment (whether fixed assets and/or non-fixed assets) to a U.S. non-profit, the DPA should contact the Property Office to process the documentation.)
