UCAR policy is to provide a safe working environment for employees and visitors while adhering to all applicable Federal, State, and local health, environment, and safety regulations. In the absence of specific regulations, it is UCAR's intent to conform to nationally recognized practices. UCAR management provides equipment and procedures needed to operate in a manner that is safe for employees and the environment.
Employees must follow established procedures and report concerns about workplace hazards and safety and environmental issues. Such concerns should be reported to supervisors; members of the UCAR Safety and Security Committee; or Health, Environment and Safety Services (HESS) staff. Emergencies, such as fires, chemical spills, or injuries to staff at any UCAR location, should be reported immediately by calling extension 1911.
HESS staff may temporarily require suspension of any activity that is considered an immediate danger to life, health, property, or the environment, or that may present an unacceptable risk to UCAR. Permanent suspension requires the approval of the President of UCAR.
In the specific case of flight operations, procedures are established and published by the NCAR Research Aviation Facility Manager.
See UCAR's safety procedures on the SaSS Web site.
