Document Title: Electra side-mounted camera (DI00010)
Description: A side-mounted camera was used to take photos for documentation during flights of the Lockheed Electra research aircraft (owned by the National Science Foundation and operated by the National Center for Atmospheric Research). The four-engine turboprop plane was stationed at the Jefferson County Airport, about 12 miles (19 kilometers) southeast of NCAR headquarters in Boulder, Colorado. The Electra was used for atmospheric studies conducted around the world by NCAR and its member institutions. With its cockpit and passenger compartments pressurized for high-altitude flight, the Electra was able to collect data up to 27,000 feet (8,000 meters) above sea level.
