Drought in Ethiopia (DI00005) Photo by Mickey Glantz
Description:
This Ethiopian village and surrounding terrain typify a sub- Saharan climate that contributes to drought. In the 1980s Ethiopia suffered a severe famine which was the result of scarce precipitation combined with poor agricultural methods meeting a situation in which the water reserves were already low. Internal strife also contributed to deprive people of adequate nutrition through disruptions in the infrastructure of the country.
