Document Title: UCAR blue line amendment poster, 1961 (DI02118)
Description: Many parcels of land were available in Boulder for the construction of the new NCAR headquarters, but the dramatic South Boulder mesa overlooking the city was always the favorite. The City of Boulder, however, was concerned about development in the foothills and had amended its charter to include a line above which city water would not be supplied. Founding director Walter Orr Roberts pledged that the area would remain a nature preserve and that the building would be environmentally sensitive. After much debate, voters passed the NCAR amendment to the Boulder Blue Line by a margin of 3.5 to 1. This image shows one of the poster arguing in favor of the amendment.
