This image shows one of the roof-mounted weather stations deployed during VORTEX 2, the second field phase of the Verification of the Origins of Rotation in Tornadoes Experiment. VORTEX2 is designed to improve our understanding of tornado formation, which ultimately will better allow us to assess the likelihood of tornadoes in supercell thunderstorms and possibly tornado intensity, longevity, and cyclic behavior.
