Description:
The National Center for Atmospheric Research's research aircraft are stationed at the Jefferson County Airport, about 12 miles (19 kilometers) southeast of NCAR headquarters, in Boulder, Colorado. The aircraft, owned by the National Science Foundation and operated by NCAR, are used for atmospheric studies conducted around the world by NCAR and its member institutions. Mounted inside the aircraft are weather radar and other standard instruments, such as pressure transducers that provide wind data. Pictured: The former NSF/NCAR Lockheed Electra
