Document Title:
Iridescence in wave clouds (DI01450) Photo by Carlye Calvin
Description:
Occasionally patches of cloud develop iridescent (colored) borders. When sunlight or moonlight is diffracted as it passes through a cloud that contains water droplets, coronas, faintly colored luminous rings of light, are formed. Iridescent borders of a cloud represent small portions of unusually large coronas. The color that is seen depends on the size of the droplets and ranges from bluish-white to brownish-red.
