Description: NCAR researchers work on MGAUS (Mobile GPS Advanced Upper-Air Sounding System), which was used to launch weather balloons during VORTEX2. VORTEX2 is designed to improve our understanding of tornado formation, which ultimately will better allow us to assess the likelihood of tornadoes in supercell thunderstorms and possibly tornado intensity, longevity, and cyclic behavior.
