A plane is de-iced before take-off. NCAR tests a de-icing support system that provides detailed snowfall predictions up to 30 minutes in advance. Airframe icing is one of the most serious weather-related threats a commercial pilot will ever face. The Research Applications Laboratory (RAL) at the National Center for Atmospheric Research studies the impact of icing and other aviation hazards. Improved icing forecasts will lead to safer air travel.
