Emerging Smart Grid Technologies

A host of new smart energy devices and systems are emerging that can take pressure off overloaded grid infrastructure and power costs, dramatically improve grid reliability and security, and accelerate the growth of cleaner power generation. Xcel Energy is at the forefront of the energy sector's movement to make the power grid "smarter" and has recently committed to build a Smart Grid City, beginning in 2008. Smart Grid City will be the world's first community with a fully integrated portfolio of smart grid technologies and is expected to create benefits for consumers, environmentalists, and the energy industry as a whole.
