Social & Community Investing

Speaker:  Scott Budde

All types of investors - from individuals to institutions - have access
to a wide range of social and community investing strategies.  The
presentation looks at three basic strategies with examples from
TIAA-CREF's experience:

  • community investing (such as microfinance and affordable housing),
  • socially screened investment funds and
  • corporate engagement and proxy voting

Importantly, investors can see that each strategy is capable of
delivering competitive returns while also generating some type of
positive social impact.
