Distributed Learning Technologies:  Strategies for Successful Deployments

Speakers:  John Whitmer

What are the latest learning technologies, and how can you use them to achieve outreach goals?  What learning goals are appropriate to these technologies, and what does it *really* take to make them work? Webcasts, Podcasts, Online Classes, Videoconferencing, Web 2.0 –a plethora of technologies have recently matured that researchers and educators are using to communicate their research and engage learners.  This session will discuss experiences using these technologies, drawing on experience from the Network for Earthquake Engineering Simulation (NEES), an NSF-funded MREFC with 15 distributed experimental sites and other educational initiatives.
