What’s Next for the Economy and the Markets?
Speaker: P. Brett Hammond
We can all see the economy and the markets beginning to improve, in some areas dramatically and in some areas far less so. This “Great Recession” has been worse that any since WW II and some claim it is the worst since the Great Depression. The question is, what’s next? Are we on track for a gradual, but sustained recovery that will see the global economy improve along with individual financial security? Alternatively, there are less positive scenarios, including: (1) Return to Recession; (2) Inflation or Stagflation; and (3) Falling Dollar. Each of these three would fall harshly on individuals around the globe, but the effects would be quite different in each case and the chances of each vary because of fundamental structural changes that have occurred in the global and U.S. economies. For example, over the next 5-10 years, why is in inflation unlikely but continued asset bubbles nearly certain? What would a falling dollar mean for the global and U.S. economies? In light of these changes, why should individual savers and investors behave differently now than they have in the past?
