Director, Information Technology
University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR)

Shawn Winkelman has been a business leader for 20 years and is currently Director of Information Technology for the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, CO.  Shawn recently facilitated Finance and Administration’s strategic planning process and was a member of the design team for the UCAR Executive Leadership program.

Prior to joining UCAR in June 2001, Shawn enjoyed a 15-year career at Citicorp in various positions of increasing responsibility.  As an Information Systems Auditor, Shawn had an opportunity to do a “tour of duty” throughout Citicorp’s credit card and branch banking businesses and gained invaluable experience in internal control development and risk management.  After four years in Audit, Shawn moved into progressively challenging management positions in IT, culminating in a position as Vice President of Technology for Citicorp Diners Club.   As a member of Diners Club’s senior Information Technology Management team, Shawn managed staff in Denver, Frankfurt, and London.  

Shawn has a B.S. in Computer and Management Science from Metropolitan State College in Denver and a M.A. in Environmental Leadership from Naropa University.  Shawn is also a student of Naropa’s Marpa Center for Business and Economics and has completed extensive training in leadership, organizational development, and coaching.   He is currently studying how authentic and conscious leadership can help to bring about positive cultural transformation.

Responsibilities:

As Director of Information Technology, Mr. Winkelman has primary management responsibility for all Information Technology activities to support Finance and Administration functions and services.  Shawn works with a team of 25-30 professionals to provide strategic planning, project management, application development, systems and database administration, desktop systems and network support, and multimedia services.
