Step 1: Plug in all power and network cables, and turn on the computer.
You must see green lights on the camera, monitor, microphones (when you speak), computer, and one speaker. The network cable needs to be on the .43 subnet (or a verified equivalent).
Step 2: Open Internet Explorer.
The homepage should be ucar.insors.net. If you need a username and password, contact your access grid node administrator.
Step 3: Select your virtual venue room from the drop down menus, and click "Multicast."
The virtual venue room is scheduled in "IG Scheduler". Use your node's username and password or ucarguest/ucarguest.
Step 4: Meeting security: Either click Yes to "Do you wish to continue?," or type in an encryption key for the meeting.
Occasionally a window will appear saying "Closing IG Applications," followed by another window saying, "Click Okay when..." This is a harmless Insors Grid bug. Click Okay. Encryption keys can be used in the Lobby, Mesosphere, Stratosphere, and Thermosphere rooms. Any letters or numbers will work, and all participants using the same key can see and hear each other.
Step 5: On the right side of the IG Audio window, put a check in the Talk box.
Every session begins muted. Ensure that above the talk checkbox it says Line In, as opposed to Microphone.
Step 6: Double click on a video thumbnail in IG Video to enlarge that participant.
To resize a video window, select it, and press S, M, or L. Arrange video windows to taste.
Step 7: To exit an access grid session, click the "Exit Room" button in Internet Explorer.
Four Universal Steps to Fix Access Grid Problems
1 Exit the venue room and re-enter it via the Bridge button, rather than Multicast.
3 Make sure everything is plugged in and switched on.
4 Restart the computer.
5 Contact your Access Grid node administrator.
If you hear your voice echoing back to you, the problem is at someone else's node. Ask them to reboot their microphone/echo cancellation system.
