ATTENDEES:
MEETING SUMMARY:
Remodel and Equipment Update:
There will be a meeting on Tuesday, September 28, in the FL-Auditorium, to review the FL auditorium remodel. The architect will hear concerns from those who would like to provide input.
The digital document camera demonstration was held, however there were some concerns about the quality of the image. There is some concern that the projection capability is not adequate or that there might need to be some calibrations required in order to provide quality images using this equipment. Eron will work with Peter Fox and others on this.
The ML-auditorium projection booth needs to be remodeled. It has outdated equipment and the room is too small to accommodate computer equipment for the multimedia use.
It was recommended that the ML-auditorium remodel committee hold a meeting similar to the one at FL to hear any concerns from staff.
ML Theater:
ML Theater is almost complete. The equipment was tested and it appears that everything works well. Currently the equipment is only set up to play the Welcome to UCAR tape, however, the equipment can accommodate up to three choices on programming.
Welcome to UCAR Video:
The new Welcome to UCAR video is now available and a new video production called High Hopes, about minority recruiting into the atmospheric and related sciences will be available soon.
Educational Classroom:
The educational classroom is fully equipped with new media equipment. This space could be available for other presentations. Contact Rene Munoz for more information.
Video Teleconferencing:
Two video-conferencing sessions were successfully set up. One was for the NCAR Director search and the other was for an NSF and Penn State consulting session. NSF is developing a new site to do video-conferencing and will be working with us to test and demonstrate the new site.
IP video-conferencing should be the focus for UCAR in the future. Eron will distribute a list of seminars, etc. from a multi-media conference he attended. They are available on audio tape.
It was suggested that the MAG group should videoconference its monthly meetings. In this way new equipment or systems could be tested and possible problems could be dealt with prior to using the equipment for a major event.
New InFocus Projectors:
Three new briefcase-size, portable InFocus projectors have been purchased. These are small enough to travel with and will fit size requirements for air travel.
Conference Phones:
The hookup of the conference phone systems was discussed. Due to our digital network, the speaker phone hook ups will be a little difficult and cumbersome to use.
MAG Strategic Plan:
The MAG Strategic Plan is almost complete. Steve, Eron and Cheryl will work together to get this information to the MAG prior to the next meeting.
New MAG Members :
Bruce Henry will replace Chris Cantrell on MAG. Members term dates should be included on the web page for easier tracking of term dates. Members are asked to serve two-year terms.
Corperate Technical Training Center:
The CTTC is still being planned to occupy space in the new F&A location. More information will be provided when the location of the F&A move is announced.
FY2000 Staff Development Catalog:
The FY2000 Staff Development catalog was released this month. All of the technical training classes quickly filled with waiting lists. If possible, additional class sessions will be added.
Meeting adjourned at 11:20 a.m.
