The UCAR Multimedia Advisory Group (MAG) reports to the ITC and is chartered to develop policies and strategies, recommend technologies, and leverage and coordinate existing expertise and infrastructure related to UCAR's use of the multimedia resources.
The scope of the committee will cover all multimedia specific aspects of UCAR's IT and include hardware, software, research, testing, design and maintenance.
In particular, the MAG will assist UCAR to:
- define standard multimedia services, and enhanced services
- define multimedia functions, services and equipment required to serve all parts of the organization
- advise the multimedia resources engineering group
- set priorities for multimedia infrastructure enhancements as well as provide cost estimates and alternatives
- contribute to and review long-term plans for UCAR's use of multimedia resources
- formulate recommendations and briefings to the ITC and NCAR/UOP/UCAR management as to appropriate use of multimedia resources to further UCAR's mission
The MAG will select a chair from the appointed membership who will serve for a term of one year. The term of committee members is two years with suitable staggering of membership and coordination of rotation with the ITC. The MAG will have regular meetings (to be determined by the group) for briefings on new initiatives, updates of ongoing projects, and discussion of multimedia issues and problems. Minutes will be recorded for each meeting. The MAG meetings will alternate between the Mesa and Foothills Labs.
The MAG will coordinate with other IT-related committees; CSAC for security issues, NCAB for multimedia related networking issues, DSAC for desktop utilization of multimedia, etc., the proposed TAC to incorporate multimedia specific training opportunities, and any other working group as appropriate. At least one member of the ITC will serve on the MAG in a liaison capacity to both committees.
