MEETING SUMMARY:
MAG Strategic Plan Sub-Committee Update:
Steve Dickson reviewed the progress of the Strategic Planning Committee (SPC). The SPC has met twice to formulate information and ideas of the UCAR Multimedia Strategic Plan. The committee is currently in the process of incorporating the information into the skeletal framework of the MAG strategic plan currently on the web. A draft version of the plan will be available for MAG review at the August meeting. Final copy, incorporating MAG input, should be available by the September meeting.
Corporate Training Center:
Cheryl Cristanelli stated the CTTC is currently on hold as the space at the ML was not the optimum site for a CTTC. This allowed for SCD to make better use of this space. Currently there is a committee researching available leasing/buying space in the Boulder area to house offices, the CTTC and an auditorium. Cost and space availability could make this search a timely process.
Training:
Cheryl stated that Staff Development would be using Executrain for all of the technical trainings during the coming year using their facilities in Boulder. The site will be close to the FL lab and provide a PC learning environment. There was some discussion about a couple of poor training events with Executrain. Cheryl will work with Executrain to try to ensure the quality of the trainings being offered.
Discussions took place on the need to provide training or workshops on presenting quality technical presentations. Cheryl and Eron will collaborate on developing a seminar around the guidelines for effective presentations (use of PowerPoint, multimedia equipment, and effective content) to present to staff.
Discussion took place on whether a production department should be available to assist people with the development of technical presentations.
Discussions took place on training of new staff on e-mail systems. Diann Duino stated her staff was not equipped to offer continuous training in this area, but would check into providing resources to fill this need. Lack of qualified trainers, time, and resources is a problem.
A review of the current New Employee Orientation program will be held in August to determine how it can be revamped for better effectiveness. Web sites to link resources for new staff was suggested. This will be presented at the meeting in August.
Auditorium Remodel:
Some construction work has begun on the ML theater. Some walls have been moved around the smoking room.
The FL auditorium is still on hold pending a town meeting with Katy to discuss concerns with design. Eron and Diann are submitting RFPs to purchase new equipment for the rooms.
Eron stated that currently the ML theater and the education classroom at ML would have the most up-to-date media equipment.
Agenda Schedule:
Cheryl asked the group if the monthly meetings are meeting the needs of the MAG and those participating. The group responded that the meeting schedule works well and the meetings are effective.
Other:
Eron stated that there had been some problems with InFocus projectors shutting down prematurely. He has worked with the InFocus technical people to fix the problem.
Video conferencing efforts are increasing, especially with the 40th year celebration using audio and PowerPoint.
Eron asked if the MAG group should establish a priority list of operations projects.
Meeting adjourned at 11:30 a.m.
