UCAR LEADERSHIP ACADEMY

The mission of the Leadership Academy is to increase UCAR/NCAR's capacity for excellence through developing our current and future leaders.

Posted - September 2011:  Due to current budget constraints, the Leadership Academy (L/A) Program is on hiatus for FY12.   Future L/A programs will be considered as funding, needs and resources allow. For more information, access to additional leadership development resources, or to be added to the interest list for future L/A programs, please contact Cheryl Cristanelli, cherylc@ucar.edu, x8708.

NOMINATION and SELECTION PROCESS

  • 24 slots available in the program
  • Nominations must be made by Lab Directors and UCP Director (or their designees)
  • For each nomination, please include name(s), title, lab/division/program, along with a brief statement highlighting candidate match to selection criteria.  (If more than one candidate is submitted, please include priority ranking.)
  • Final selections will be made by the President's Council based on nomination/selection criteria, and an equitable, diverse balance of participants from across the organization.
  • Directors and supervisors will be contacted regarding the PC's selections and should notify all their nominees of their status. Candidates who can't participate, can be wait listed in case of cancellations or future L/A programs.
  • If there are any changes or substitution requests, please contact Cheryl as soon as possible.

NOMINATION and SELECTION CRITERIA. Nominees must:

  • Supervise employees or have an influencing/impactful role.
  • Demonstrate the ability to perform significantly above the norm.
  • Have potential to provide large organization leadership.
  • Have ability to attend the full program.
  • Want to participate in the program.

Additional considerations could include:

  • Over/Under-Used division/program participations
  • Previous L/A wait listed staff
  • Critical organizational/lab/division initiatives

UCAR's Leadership Academy offers a transformational experience that deepens awareness and a catalyze for the development of crucial skills needed for our current and future leaders. Developed in 2003, this highly successful program offers real-world, experiential skill development; individualized development plans; practice opportunities; private coaching; peer mentors; support, feedback and the ability to contribute to UCAR/NCAR's success.

Based on UCAR's Management Competencies the program focuses on four key quadrants:

1. Self – personal goals, self-awareness, personal effectiveness, etc.
2. Others – interpersonal skills, leading & managing people, etc.
3. Teams – team development/effectiveness, project management, etc.
4. Organization – organizational knowledge/impact, business management, etc.
