Academic Credentials Evaluations

Sometimes academic/educational credentials evaluations are required by the USCIS, or by other institutions for a variety of reasons. Many companies offer these evaluations, and can be found by searching the Internet.  Several non-profit companies that offer these services include:

Educational Credential Evaluators, Inc., www.ece.org
World Education Services, www.wes.org
International Education Research Foundation (IERF), www.ierf.org

UCAR does not specifically endorse these nor any other academic/educational credentials evaluators.

Health Insurance

J visa holders are required to have medical insurance.  Please see Medical (Health) Insurance for Foreign Visitors for more specific information. H-1B holders are payrolled employees and therefore are eligible to purchase medical insurance in accordance with UCAR's benefit plans. Please see UCAR Benefits Information, on the Human Resources website.

All other visitors are encouraged to carry medical insurance while in the United States. They should first check with their insurance plan to see if they are covered while traveling abroad. Many private U.S. insurance companies offer short-term insurance coverage to foreign visitors as well. We recommend that you discuss this with your prospective visitors, in order to ensure that they are prepared if the need for medical assistance arises. This discussion may be as simple as a statement in your offer letter requesting that they let you know if they have health insurance that will cover them while in the U.S. and then responding appropriately.
