Dependent Care Assistance

UCAR provides assistance to those employees with dependent care needs in the following ways:

1.
Dependent Care Spending Account. UCAR has adopted a Section 125 Flexible Spending Account Plan which allows eligible employees with dependent care expenses to pay for these expenses (up to $5,000 per year) on a pre-tax basis. Please review the Flexible Spending Account Summary Plan Document for further details.

2.
Work-Life-Options. UCAR is a charter and active member of Work-Life-Options - a coalition of Boulder area businesses and institutions which began 1991. The purpose of Work-Life-Options is to promote resources and programs relating to dependent care for employees of its members. The priorities of Work-Life-Options include:
  • Child Care Resource and Referral
  • Elder Care Information and Referral
  • Pet Care Information and Referral
  • Child Care Discount List - Child care centers throughout your area offer discounts to employees.
  • Back-up Care - Each employee receives 100 hours per year of back-up care at a highly subsidized rate.
  • Drop-in Care - vacations, overtime, emergencies, last minute breakdown of care, and before and after school
  • In-Home Care - for sick dependents, more than one child, overtime, emergencies, last minute breakdown of care, and before and after school
  • Work-Life Vouchers - Receive five $10 vouchers each year to get reimbursed for many types of family care and work-life expenses.

    CIGNA Employee Assistance Program (EAP) Will provide all employees and members of their households free assistance in locating child care, elder care and pet care services. Through this service, employees and their loved ones receive personalized attention to help them define the types of care that will be most appropriate for their family, as well as referral to providers with vacancies that meet these needs and expectations.
