Field Project Health Insurance
Field projects will be starting soon and questions have come up concerning health insurance coverage while employees are out of the Boulder area. Below is an explanation of how you would be covered if an emergency or urgent care is required. Please be aware that if you are injured on the job you will be covered under worker’s compensation. Please read the worker’s compensation procedures on the SASS web site.
HEALTH INSURANCE
CIGNA PPO and the CIGNA High Deductible Plan (HDHP) covers out of area treatment if in the United States. If outside of the United States, CIGNA covers
emergency and urgent care only. The CIGNA PPO plan has networks through out the country. Before leaving for the field project, you can access CIGNA’s web site at www.cigna.com
and print a provider directory for the location where you will be working. If you need to see a physician, use the directory to find an in-network provider near where you are located. Otherwise, the treatment will be treated as an out-of-network service and you will have to meet your deductible and charges will be covered at 70%.
Kaiser Permanente HMO covers out-of-area emergency treatment only. Be aware that within
48 hours after inpatient hospital care commences, you need to notify Kaiser Permanente's 24-hour
emergency line, 303-338-4545. For outpatient care, phone the Information Center for a claim form,
303-338-3800 or 1-800-632-9700. File your claim within 180 days of receiving care. For more information, access the
Kaiser
Summary Plan Description and view Section I titled
“Emergency Services and Non-Emergency, Non-Routine Care”.
