| Purpose: | The Exchange Visitor (J-1) visa may be granted for up to five years. Exchange Visitors are subject to a two-year residence requirement in their country of nationality or last foreign residence before applying for another type of U.S. visa, unless the requirement is waived by the Immigration and Naturalization Service.
